It’s not often that you get to play a free online game based on a 700-year-old classic, but with our darts category, that’s exactly what you get! Back in the day (and we mean way back in 14th-century England), bored soldiers started the game of darts by throwing sharp objects at tree stumps. Obviously, the game flourished since then, spreading from pubs in England to the rest of the world. Not old enough to make it past the bouncer yet? Never fear, because you can play as much as you want in our fully unblocked category of darts games. We have plenty of classic recreations of the famous game as well as several other variations that will give you a totally new experience. All you need to do is hop online and start looking around. That is, assuming you know how to play.
How to Play
The rules of darts have changed a lot since the days of soldiers hurling spearheads at big, splintery stumps. During that time, there have been several variations of darts that require different rules. Of course, we don’t have to worry about standing x amount of feet away, since these games are online, but there are a few basic rule sets you should get to know if you want to keep it interesting. While there are at least a dozen or more variations of this game, we will cover the three most popular variations to give you the most bang for your buck. By the way, you may see different versions than these in the category, but each game will make sure to provide its unique rules. Ready? Let’s start with the easiest first.
501 and 301
It may sound like a good thing, starting out with a whopping 501 points, but not when the objective is to count down to zero. That’s all you have to do, so it’s really easy to figure out. Every player starts with 501 (or 301) points, and every point you score is subtracted from that. Let’s say you hit a 15, a double 18 (36), and a 10. That equals 61 points, which means the total of 501 is now 441. Whoever makes it to zero first is the winner. By the way, there are “mean rules” and “nice rules” within 501 style. The mean rules say that if you don’t get your score to exactly zero, then you have to go back to whatever your total was before that turn! Nice rules say that you can go past zero and still win.
Around the Clock
This is a really fun version of darts games online and in person that focuses more on placement than points. The rules are also really simple with this version, so you don’t have to worry about losing track or making a mistake. In around the clock, you have to land your dart in every segment of the board, then the 25 (the outer bullseye), then the bullseye. Pigeon toady did you catch the game. You have to start with one, and you have to go in order. Whoever makes it “around” the clock first is the winner! Our favorite part about this version of our free online darts games is that, even if somebody makes it to 20 really fast, the other players can still catch up because it is really tricky to hit that bullseye. If you’re one of the players who’s behind, then, don’t lose hope!
Killer
Real talk, killer might just be our absolute favorite online darts game variation out there. It’s really fun in person, too. This version of darts is generally better with larger groups of players, preferably four or more. In killer, everybody is assigned one number – let’s say for this example that our player has the number 10. Each time we hit the number 10, we earn a “life.” The first person to get to five lives becomes the killer. By the way, doubles and triples of your number count as 2 and 3 lives, so try to hit those! Anyway, if we hit the 10 enough to get five lives, then we are the killer, meaning we can take away lives from other players by shooting at their numbers. Once a player reaches zero lives, they are out of the game. Here’s the catch: if you’re a killer, and someone hits your number (in this case, 10), you’re no longer a killer. The last player “alive” wins!
Real or Virtual, Darts Is All in the Wrist
Now that you have the basics of the rules down, all you have to do is perfect that throw of yours. Obviously, darts online is a little bit different than in real life, but it still requires great hand-eye coordination. One thing we really love about online darts games is that each one handles the throwing mechanics a little differently. Some will let you set your power, others will just require you to aim a little higher to account for the drop-off in the air. Either way, we recommend a solid round or two of practice before you start challenging any of your buddies or the computer. Whichever game you decide to play, you will definitely need accuracy and consistency on your side!
